Public Talk by Sculptor Christine Charlesworth FRSA, ‘The Statue of Aphra: A Sculptor’s Journey’

July 2 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

£5

Christine will illustrate through her photographs the whole story of creating the bronze statue of Aphra Behn. Starting from her initial idea, through making the clay sculpture on a special armature, making the mould sections, followed by casting in wax for the lost wax process at the foundry. You will then see photographs of pouring the hot bronze into the ceramic moulds, welding the parts of the statue together again, through to the final patination on the sandblasted surface and waxing of the finished Aphra. After 18 months of hard work and testing deadlines,  Aphra Behn is finally ready to walk the streets of Canterbury. Be one of the first to see what she looks like!
